About MTP

While embodying essence, Move To Protect brings the natural world and our innate relationship with it to viewers through visual sound, movement, and environmental textures.

Founded in 2020, Move To Protect is the coming together of Alexandra Lockhart’s two passions; movement and the wild natural world. She is excited to continuously collaborate with a range of artists and activists to create dance films and performances designed to inspire, educate and bring awareness to the necessity to protect wild lands and natural water systems. Alexandra creates work designated to a variety to environmental issues such as: climate change, oil and gas drilling, fossil fuel digging, mismanagement of water availability, and over-development.

All movement is choreographed in the environment, as well as filmed on location. The artists involved immerse themselves in the specific place, and base their creations completely off of the landscape.

The Move To Protect project is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts organization.

About Alexandra

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Alexandra grew up with a direct relationship with the mountains, rivers, and wild natural world. From a young age she was climbing mountains, backpacking, camping, kayaking and mountain biking, in addition to dancing. Alexandra continued her passion for dance and attended SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance where she graduated with her BFA in 2015. Since, she has been dancing, choreographing, teaching and continuing her research in New York City, Los Angeles and around the world such as Taiwan, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Israel, Switzerland and Canada. In 2022, she was a part of an arts and science residency in Svalbard, Norway and is currently working as an artist-in-residence with the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at CU Boulder.

“Natural landscapes have always been my biggest form of inspiration as an artist. While exploring and experiencing diverse outdoor environments throughout the world, I began making dance films in order to research for and inspire my in-studio creations. Building on this, I felt propelled and inspired to deliberately dedicate my time to creating more with the natural world, bridging the gap between my two passions. I’m very excited to utilize my art form in a way that advocates for the love and respect the natural world deserves.”

Please consider supporting this project’s mission as it aims to energize viewers to become active in celebrating and supporting these important wild places.
